Surprise backyards transformed since 2004
Turning Dream Pools into Reality. One Pool at a Time.
We start from the yard in front of us rather than a shape we already like. A newer production lot off Bullard with block walls on three sides and an older half acre out toward the White Tanks call for completely different answers. Every Surprise pool begins with a site visit, an honest conversation about budget, and a plan drawn for that one lot.

Meet Nate Green, Founder of Saturn Pool Company
Nate and his family have called the Valley home since 2003, and he has been building pools here since 2004. He has watched Surprise grow from farmland into neighborhoods and has built through most of that stretch, from the streets around Surprise Farms to the newer subdivisions past the Loop 303. Twenty years on, he still runs it the same way: build it properly, price it honestly, and answer your own phone.
It is why most of our Surprise work arrives through referrals. Word travels down a street, and a pool that still looks right after ten summers argues better than anything we could write. Prepare to be excited.

What can Saturn Pools do for you?
Four things, done properly, for Surprise homeowners. Design leads, construction follows, and the finishing details decide how often the yard gets used.
Custom Pool Design Services
Every Saturn pool begins as a conversation about your yard rather than a page from a catalogue. We work out how you want to live in the space, which corner keeps its shade late in the day, how the patio meets the house, and what the budget realistically carries. A lot of Surprise homes sit on newer production lots where the usable yard shrinks fast once you allow for setbacks and the equipment pad. Settling that on paper is what stops a design being cut back later. One phone call reaches both sales and design.
New Pool Construction
We build concrete, in-ground pools, the most durable shell available in desert ground. A poured shell copes with ground movement and heat swings in a way a prefabricated one cannot, and it leaves you free on shape, depth and size. Most builds run 8 to 12 weeks depending on scope, permits, inspections and weather. We pull the permits, draw the site plan and book City of Surprise inspections. Surprise reviews pool submittals closely, so the drawing has to show pool position, equipment placement and the barrier before anything is issued.
New Spa Construction
A spa can be lifted into the pool as a spillover feature or built on its own as a standalone retreat. Either route, it is drawn and poured within the same project, so tile, finish and decking read as one piece instead of an afterthought added a year later. Standalone spas are especially popular around Sun City Grand, where a full pool is more yard and more upkeep than people want. Plumbing and equipment get specified at the outset, which is what keeps heat up times sensible and the jets behaving.
Pool Features and Add-ons
This is where a pool stops being a rectangle of water. Water features, fire, lighting, shade and the deck around it all change how often the yard gets used, particularly through a Surprise summer when the comfortable hours sit early and late. Shade matters more here than most people expect, since a lot of newer lots have very little mature planting. We walk you through what each option costs to build and to run, then build the ones worth having.

Schedule Your Free ConsultationA family business that never outgrew the family part.
Saturn Pools is family owned, and Surprise has been on our map since we started in 2004. Very little about how we operate has changed. The owner is on every job, a single call reaches design and sales together, and no question needs relaying through a department to get answered.
A pool is a serious long term investment and a Surprise build gets treated that way. We stay alongside you from the opening design conversation to the final walkthrough, and we remain easy to reach long after the water goes in. Plenty of our customers date back to the early years, and their referrals still bring in most of what we build.

Steel, plumbing and gunite go underground the day after they are inspected. Nobody photographs that part of a build. It is also the part that decides whether your pool still looks right a decade from now. In Surprise the recurring constraint is space rather than ground. Newer lots are walled on three sides with tight side gates, so how equipment reaches the backyard shapes the whole excavation plan. Get that wrong and the shortcuts start early. Shortcuts taken below grade always surface later.
Quality over volume
Plenty of builders working Surprise chase volume, and the fast growth here has attracted them. We take on only the work we can supervise properly, so nothing gets rushed to clear a schedule.
One call, one owner
One number reaches both sales and design. If your community committee comes back with a question, you hear it from whoever drew the plan rather than a message taker.
Premium materials
Premium materials and proven methods, with the detail work checked before gunite covers it. A tight lot leaves no room to fix a shell that was rushed.
A warranty that holds
The pool and its equipment carry a warranty, walked through with you and backed by each manufacturer. We are still reachable once the water is in.
Twelve communities. One crew.
We build across the Valley with one crew, and Surprise is a straight run out Bell Road. We work backyards from Sun City Grand and Marley Park through Surprise Farms and Greer Ranch out toward Asante and the White Tanks. Choose your city below to see the local build details that apply there.
You do not have to be ready to build. You just have to be ready to talk.
Three ways in, depending on how far along you already are. Every one of them is free.
Why Surprise homeowners keep handing our number to their neighbors.
Most of our work arrives by word of mouth, one Surprise backyard at a time. Referrals only happen when the build went well and the builder is still around afterward to take the call.
Two decades of building here
We have built here since 2004, across twenty summers and twenty monsoon seasons. Hundreds of customers on, the same people still handle design and construction.
Quality before volume
We would rather build fewer pools properly than spread crews across a packed calendar. Tight lots and narrow access punish a job that is being hurried.
Answers, not a runaround
One call reaches both sales and design. We answer questions as they come up, and we cover the practical things that matter here, including where your pool water is allowed to go when you drain or backwash it.
We do not disappear
The relationship does not end when the water goes in. If something needs attention two years down the line, the same team is still here to handle it.

If Anthem Pets referred you to Saturn Pools, and we build your pool, we’ll donate $100 to AP! And even if you don’t choose us, would you please consider a donation to a great organization that helps to care for our pet family?
FAQ for Surprise Residents
These are the questions Surprise customers ask us most, covering cost, timelines, permits and upkeep. If you live in an age restricted community or on one of the newer walled lots, a few of these will matter more than the rest.
Price comes down to interior and decking materials, the equipment package, and features such as waterfalls, lighting and firepits. Size and specification move the number as much as anything. In Surprise the factor people underestimate is access. Many newer homes are walled on three sides with a side gate barely wide enough for a mini excavator, and where machinery cannot reach the backyard the excavation method changes and the cost follows. We check that on the site visit before quoting.
A real figure needs a real look at the property. We measure the yard, test the access, check the fall of the ground and talk through your wish list, then come back with pricing built around your lot instead of an average.
Pool projects typically take 8 to 12 weeks. The exact time frame depends on scheduling, scope, permits, inspections, material availability and weather. Monsoon storms between June and September can add days around excavation and gunite. In Surprise the two schedule risks are plan review, since the city looks hard at pool submittals, and community approval where you have an active architectural committee. We start both early rather than in sequence.
Often yes, and the rules go further than design. Age restricted communities such as Sun City Grand run architectural review and commonly add conditions on working hours, equipment noise and how contractors access the street. That is reasonable when your neighbors are home during the day, and it shapes how we schedule rather than what we build. These yards also tend to suit a standalone spa or a smaller pool with a wide step and a bench instead of a deep swimming pool. We prepare the submittal your committee wants and work to their hours.
Pools need a permit from City of Surprise Community Development before any work starts. Surprise applies a mix of Arizona state law and the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, and pool submittals get looked at closely. The site plan has to show the pool location, the equipment placement and the code required safety barrier, along with setbacks and the fence line. Barriers must be at least five feet measured from the outside, with self closing and self latching gates and no gap a four inch sphere can pass through. Electrical work needs GFCI protection to National Electrical Code standards. We handle the applications, the site plan and the inspections.
Onto your own property, and never onto the lot next door. Surprise treats drainage that discharges onto neighboring property as an enforcement matter, and if it causes damage it can go further than a warning. On the newer walled lots this deserves real thought, because the pads are close to the property line and there is not much fall to work with. We site the equipment and set the deck grading so drain and backwash water has somewhere to go on your side of the wall, and we show you the correct way to do it at handover.
Usually, but the design has to be honest about it. On a standard Surprise production lot the yard shrinks quickly once you allow for setbacks, the equipment pad and a barrier that meets code. A pool can still fit well, but it may want to be a different shape than the one in your head, and a tanning ledge or a wide bench often gives more usable water than extra length. If the side gate is too narrow for machinery there are other ways in, and we price that honestly rather than discovering it on day one.
Yes, and the far western lots are a different job to the ones in town. Out past Asante toward the White Tanks the parcels get larger, the ground gets rockier and the utilities are further away, all of which affects trenching and equipment runs. The upside is space, so those yards can carry a bigger pool, a real shade structure and an outdoor kitchen without feeling crowded. We walk the parcel before quoting, because a large rural lot varies far more than a subdivision one.
