Stock pools are usually cheaper, and for some yards they are the right answer. What they cannot do is adapt. You choose from what exists rather than building what you want, and the result reads as cookie cutter next to the house it belongs to.

You control the shape, the depth, the features and the amenities. An infinity edge with soft curves or a Roman pool with straight lines and rounded ends, whatever the budget carries.
Any yard, any slope
You do not have to bend your plans around a standard shell. Custom builds take full advantage of the space you have, and they handle awkward slopes that stock pools simply cannot sit in.
Features stock cannot carry
Beach entries, sunning shelves, swim outs and waterfalls are difficult or impossible to add to a stock shell. Designed in from the start, they cost less and look like they belong.

A concrete pool is built in a fixed order, and each stage has to be inspected before the next one covers it up. Here is what actually happens in your yard, and roughly when.

Shape and depth come out of the space available, your preferences, the slope of the lot and how you want to use the yard. Nothing gets ordered until the plan is right.
Permits and excavation
We pull the permits and prepare the plot plan for your municipality, then dig. Arizona caliche and desert rock make this the stage most likely to surprise a first time pool owner.
Steel, plumbing and electrical
Structural steel is tied to plan, then plumbing lines and electrical are run. This is the skeleton of the pool and it is inspected before anything covers it.
Shotcrete shell
Pressurized concrete is applied over the rebar framework to form the shell, then left to cure properly. We would rather lose a week here than lose a shell in year eight.
Tile, decking and features
Tile, coping, decking and any extra features go in. If the project includes landscaping or outdoor living, that work is coordinated around this stage.
Interior finish, fill and startup
The interior finish is applied, the barrier is checked at the pre plaster inspection, then we fill, start the equipment and confirm everything runs as it should.
Shapes and styles
The shape sets everything else. An infinity edge suits a lot with a view or a drop at the back. A Roman pool with straight sides and rounded ends reads formal and works well against square architecture. A freeform shape softens a yard and hides an awkward boundary. We sketch two or three options against your actual lot before anyone commits.
Water and fire features
Moving water is what makes a backyard feel like somewhere rather than something. Sheer descents, waterfalls and bubblers change the sound of the space as much as the look of it. Fire does the other half of the job, pulling people outside on the evenings when Arizona finally cools off. We will tell you what each option costs to build and what it costs to run.
Lighting, automation and decking
Lighting is the most underrated line on a pool budget. It extends the usable hours well past dark, highlights the features you paid for, and makes the whole yard look more considered. Pair it with equipment automation and you can run the pool from your phone. The deck around it decides whether the space is comfortable barefoot in July.
The rest of the backyard
A pool is rarely the only thing that changes. We design and build the space around it so the whole yard works as one project rather than three.
Landscape design
Unity, line, form, texture and emphasis are what separate a finished yard from a crowded one. We plan planting and layout alongside the pool rather than after it.
Gazebos and pergolas
A gazebo gives full shade and a more traditional, ornate look. A pergola is cleaner and more modern, and can attach to the house or stand alone. Shade in Arizona is not decorative.
Lawns and turf
A lawn can make a space read wider, longer or deeper. Striped lawns elongate and feel formal. Sunken lawns look modern and sit well next to a firepit.
Fire pits
A firepit throws heat in all directions, so more people can gather around it than any other outdoor heater. It is what keeps the yard in use through the cooler months.
Outdoor kitchens
Cooking outside keeps the heat and the smells out of the house, gives people somewhere to gather, and adds real value to the property when it is built properly.
Outdoor lighting
Lighting makes the space usable long after dark, highlights the features worth looking at, and lifts curb appeal. Often the cheapest line item with the biggest effect.
