Celebrating Two Decades of Building Pools in Scottsdale

Scottsdale backyards transformed since 2004

Turning Dream Pools into Reality. One Pool at a Time.

At Saturn Pools we design around the yard you actually have. A walled lot off Hayden Road and a hillside acre in Troon North are not the same project, and we do not pretend otherwise. Every Scottsdale pool we build starts with a site visit, a straight conversation about budget, and a plan drawn for that specific lot.

Your Backyard Paradise Awaits!

Why wait? Start planning your build with a Scottsdale pool builder who actually answers the phone.

Meet Nate Green, Founder of Saturn Pool Company

Nate and his family have called the Valley home since 2003, and he has been building pools here since 2004. Scottsdale has been part of that work from the start, from tight lots near Old Town to hillside builds off Pima Road. His approach has not changed in twenty years: quality construction, honest pricing, and a phone number that still reaches him.

That commitment is why so much of our Scottsdale work arrives through referrals. Neighbors talk, and a pool that still looks right ten years on says more than any advertisement. Prepare to be excited.

What we build

What can Saturn Pools do for you?

Four things, done properly, for homeowners across Scottsdale. Design first, then construction, then the details that decide how often you actually use the yard.

01 / Design

Custom Pool Design Services

Every Saturn pool starts as a conversation about your yard, not a page from a catalogue. We look at how you want to use the space, where the afternoon sun lands, how the house opens onto the patio, and what your budget will carry. In Scottsdale we also check your lot early for an ESL overlay, a NAOS easement or an HOA design review, because any of the three changes where a pool can physically go. One phone call reaches both sales and design, and we will tell you honestly what a shape or feature costs before you commit to it.

+
Shape and depth drawn to sit inside your NAOS and setback limits
+
Decking and hardscape laid out with the pool, not bolted on after
+
Interior finish, waterline tile and coping chosen as one palette
+
Architectural review drawings prepared for your community committee
02 / Construction

New Pool Construction

We build concrete, in-ground pools, which is the most durable shell you can put in desert ground. Concrete handles soil movement and temperature swings far better than a prefabricated shell, and it lets us build in any shape, depth or size you want. Most projects run 8 to 12 weeks depending on scope, permits, inspections and weather. We pull the permits, prepare the plot plan and schedule City of Scottsdale inspections, including the pre plaster barrier check. On lots north and east of the canal we confirm your ESL and NAOS limits before anyone breaks ground.

Engineered concrete shell built to the approved plan

Typically 8 to 12 weeks from ground breaking to first swim
03 / Spas

New Spa Construction

A spa can be raised into the pool as a spillover feature or set on its own as a standalone retreat. Either way it gets designed and poured as part of the same project, so the tile, finish and decking match instead of looking bolted on a year later. We size the plumbing and equipment for the spa from the start, which is what keeps heat up times reasonable and the jets doing what they are supposed to do. In Scottsdale a spa is the part of the backyard that earns its keep from October through April, when evenings off the McDowells turn cold fast.

Raised spillover spas built into the pool
+
Standalone spas that suit tighter Old Town lots
+
Tile, finish and decking matched across pool and spa
+
Heating sized for cold evenings coming off the McDowells
04 / Features

Pool Features and Add-ons

This is where a pool stops being a rectangle of water. Water features, fire, lighting, shade and the deck around it all change how often the yard actually gets used, particularly through a Scottsdale summer when the comfortable hours are early and late. We will walk you through what each option costs to build and what it costs to run, then build the ones worth having rather than everything on the list.

+
Sheer descents, bubblers and boulder set waterfalls
+
Tanning ledges, sunken benches and swim outs
+
Fire features, low voltage lighting and equipment automation
+
Travertine decking, shade structures and outdoor living space

About Saturn Pools

A family business that never outgrew the family part.

Designing and building backyards in Scottsdale since 2004

Saturn Pools is a family owned pool builder, and Scottsdale has been part of our territory since we started in 2004. We still run the company the way we did then. The owner stays involved in every job, one phone call reaches both sales and design, and nobody gets handed between departments to get an answer.

Building a pool in Scottsdale is a significant long term investment and we treat it that way. We guide clients through every step, from the first design conversation to the final walkthrough, and we stay reachable long after the water goes in. Many of our customers have been with us from the beginning, and most of our new work still arrives through their referrals.

Our Commitment to Quality

The best part of your pool is the part you will never see.

Steel, plumbing and gunite go underground the day after they are inspected. Nobody photographs that part of a build. It is also the part that decides whether your pool still looks right a decade from now. Scottsdale makes that harder than most places. North and east of the canal you are cutting into decomposed granite and boulder shelves, and on the older flat lots south of Shea Boulevard the problem is usually squeezing equipment through a side gate. Shortcuts taken below grade always surface later.

01

Quality over volume

Some pool companies in Scottsdale choose quantity. We take on the work we can supervise properly, so nothing gets rushed to clear a schedule.

02

One call, one owner

One number reaches both sales and design. On a lot with NAOS limits or a committee to satisfy, that matters more than usual, because the answer comes from whoever actually drew the plan.

03

Premium materials

Premium materials and proven methods, with the detail work checked before it disappears under gunite. Granite ground is unforgiving of a shell that was rushed.

04

A warranty that holds

Your pool and equipment carry a warranty, reviewed with you directly and backed by each manufacturer. We still answer the phone after handoff.

Twelve communities. One crew.

We build across the Valley with one crew, and Scottsdale sits a straight run down Pima Road. We work backyards from Old Town and McCormick Ranch up through Grayhawk, DC Ranch, Troon North and the lots off Dynamite Boulevard. Choose your city below to see the local build details that apply there.

Why homeowners choose us

Why Scottsdale homeowners keep sending us their neighbors.

Most of our work arrives by word of mouth, one Scottsdale backyard at a time. That only happens when the build goes well and the company is still around afterward to pick up the phone.

01

Two decades of building here

We have built here since 2004, through twenty summers and twenty monsoon seasons. Hundreds of customers later, the design and construction process has not been handed off to anyone else.

02

Quality before volume

We would rather build fewer pools properly than run crews thin across a full calendar. Hillside excavation and committee submittals both punish a rushed schedule.

03

Answers, not a runaround

One call reaches both sales and design. We answer questions as they come up, and we pass along the maintenance habits that actually matter here, like staying ahead of hard water scale on your tile and managing evaporation through a Scottsdale summer.

04

We do not disappear

The relationship does not end at handoff. If a question or a concern comes up two years from now, the same people are still here to deal with it.

FAQ for Scottsdale Residents

These are the questions Scottsdale customers ask us most, covering design options, construction timelines, permits and maintenance. If your lot sits under an ESL overlay or inside a community with architectural review, a few of these will matter more than others.

How much does a concrete swimming pool cost in Scottsdale?

A pool's price depends on interior and decking materials, equipment, and features like waterfalls, lighting and firepits. Design, size and amenities all move the total. Two Scottsdale factors matter as well. North and east of the canal, decomposed granite, boulder shelves and slope can turn excavation into slow work. On the older lots in south and central Scottsdale the issue is usually access, since a narrow side gate decides whether we can get equipment to the backyard at all. We cannot quote an exact price until we walk the property with you.

The only way to get a real number is a site visit. We walk the yard, check access and grade, talk through what you actually want, then come back with a price built around your specific lot rather than a Valley average.

How long will my new pool take to build in Scottsdale?

Pool projects typically take 8 to 12 weeks. The exact time frame depends on scheduling, scope, permits, inspections, material availability and weather. Monsoon storms between June and September can add days around excavation and gunite. In Scottsdale two other things shape the calendar: city plan review and inspection scheduling, and HOA architectural review, which several north Scottsdale communities require in writing before city permit work can start. We run both approvals in parallel wherever the community allows it.

Do I need HOA approval before I can build a pool in Scottsdale?

In most north Scottsdale communities, yes. Neighborhoods like DC Ranch, Silverleaf, Grayhawk, Troon North, McDowell Mountain Ranch and Desert Mountain run architectural review, and they generally want written approval before city permit work starts. Some require a compliance certificate before review even opens, and the larger communities use multi stage reviews that can add weeks. Submittals usually cover pool shape and location, decking, equipment screening, wall heights and exterior colors. We prepare the drawings your committee asks for and start that clock early, so review runs alongside city plan check instead of after it.

What permits does Scottsdale require for a pool?

In-ground pools are subject to zoning and building rules, so permits must be issued before work begins. For a Scottsdale address that means a pool permit through City of Scottsdale Planning and Development Services, plus a site plan showing property lines, setbacks, equipment location, construction access and the barrier. Scottsdale allows a two foot setback from the property line unless an easement affects the lot, and pool equipment cannot sit within ten feet of an opening into a neighbor's living space. The city will not approve the pool until your fence or wall plan is approved. Barriers must be at least sixty inches high measured from the outside, with self closing and self latching gates. We handle the applications, the plot plan and the inspection scheduling, and we confirm current code on every build.

My lot is zoned ESL. Where can the pool actually go?

Scottsdale's Environmentally Sensitive Lands overlay covers the desert and mountain areas north and east of the canal, roughly two thirds of the city. Under ESL a set percentage of your lot has to stay as Natural Area Open Space, and NAOS is a deed restricted easement where no grading, clearing or excavation is allowed. That percentage climbs with slope, so a hillside parcel off Pima Road keeps far more ground untouched than a flatter lot. If your property is zoned ESL and NAOS has not been dedicated yet, dedication can be required before the permit is issued. We pull your landform and NAOS figures during design and draw the pool inside the buildable envelope, rather than finding the problem after you have fallen for a layout.

Will I have to remove saguaros or other protected plants?

Usually not remove, but you may have to relocate them. Scottsdale's Native Plant Ordinance applies across the city and protects saguaro, ironwood, palo verde and mesquite above certain sizes. If protected plants sit in the excavation path, they have to be inventoried and covered by an approved plan before a grading permit is issued, then tagged and salvaged rather than cleared. Salvaged plants are often held on site and replanted once the pool and decking are finished, which is why plenty of Scottsdale backyards end up with mature desert planting right back where it started. We handle the inventory and coordinate salvage so the work never triggers a stop order.

Do pool barrier rules change if I rent my home short term?

Yes, and Scottsdale enforces this closely. A short term rental with a pool, spa or hot tub needs a primary perimeter barrier at least sixty inches high that cannot be easily climbed, with self closing and self latching gates and latches set at least fifty four inches up. Vehicle gates have to stay locked. On top of that you need a secondary barrier restricting access to the water itself, either a separate sixty inch pool fence or an audible alarm on the doors and windows opening onto the pool area. A spa sitting outside the pool fence needs a lockable cover if there is no alarm. If you plan to rent the property at all, tell us during design so the wall and gate layout is right the first time.
