The World's Largest Swimming Pool Is Almost Unbelievable

They say everything is bigger in Texas, but that’s not necessarily true for swimming pools. In fact, in order to visit the world’s largest pool, you’ll have to go a little further south to San Alfonso del Mar Resort in Algarrobo, Chile. Calling it a pool might even be a stretch considering you can literally sail in this massive creation that covers almost 20 acres. That’s certifiably large, holding the title of “largest man-made lagoon” in the Guinness Book of World Records.

The neat thing about this pool is that it wasn’t created simply as an exercise in excess. In Algarrobo, the ocean can be beautiful but cold and dangerous, making swimming nature’s natural pool off limits. Because of this, a biochemist with a dream named Fernando Fischmann created a company, Crystal Lagoons Technology, to solve the problem. This company patented technology that made it possible to filter in ocean water for clean swimming while raising the temperature about 20 degrees Fahrenheit. All in all, the project cost about 1.5 billion dollars and takes about 4 million dollars each year to maintain.

If you ever get the chance to visit this pool that holds a staggering 66 million gallons of water, the choices are practically endless. In addition to swimming, guests can participate in scuba diving, fitness classes, paddle boating, kayaking, and, as we mentioned earlier, actual sailing. And if you don’t want to get in the water, the resort offers South America’s only “roofed beach” with its own list of amenities. It’s truly astonishing.

You may not have a 20-acre backyard, but if you are interested in building your own pool, we would love to help. Even if your backyard is relatively small, it’s still possible to design a pool you will love. We have been building pools for families like yours since 2004, and we would love to add you to our list of happy customers. Contact us today for a free estimate on your next project!
