Pool Placement Guidelines — Can I Build There?
One of the great parts about being in pool construction is that every project is unique, just like the families we build for. But, with each unique project comes unique challenges too. The first question every homeowner has to ask is always the same, but each new house has a number of variables involved in finding the answer. Let’s look into how to answer that question for your particular situation—”Can I build there?”
Utility Lines
Look above the spot you would like to build to check for electrical or utility lines. As you might imagine, overhead utility lines can affect where you can build your pool for safety reasons. On the other end of the spectrum, you’ll want to know what’s below the ground as well to avoid any issues when excavating for your inground pool.
Yard Variables
Even though you are building in your backyard, there may be some factors that come into play when it comes to exact size and placement.
Terrain
If your yard is flat, you’re likely good to go, but if your home is built on a hill or slope, you may have to do some groundwork before your pool can be installed.
Easements
Of course, you’ll have to check to make sure you aren’t encroaching on any easements. If you’re building within an existing fence line, you’re probably fine, but if not, you’ll want to be aware if there are any easements surrounding your property. Either way, better safe than sorry.
Setback Requirements
Different cities have different requirements on the minimum distance that your pool must set away from your property line. You can what your city’s setback requirement is here.
Other Factors
Other special cases exist that may affect your build, but they are less common. Sometimes properties fall into a wildlife protection zone or a protected historical district. It’s unlikely that you fall into one of these categories, but it’s worth being aware of.
