Explore Different Types of Diving Boards
Jun 1
Diving adds a fun and acrobatic twist to swimming at a home pool – swimmers can try out jumps, dives, and acrobatics in their backyard. With a diverse selection of dive boards available, selecting the ideal one may be a tricky task. This article will examine the different diving board types and their distinct features.
Traditional diving board
The traditional diving board’s classic design has stood the test of time. This wood, fiberglass, or aluminum board consists of a single flat plank that usually measures between 6 and 16 feet in length. The board’s position on a fulcrum lets it bend and launch the diver into the air. The traditional board works well for most home pools and divers thanks to its basic, easy-to-install design.
Springboard
The springboard is a notch above a conventional diving board in complexity. Fitted with springs below its flexible surface, this type of board grants additional bounce and height. Springboards are common at competitive diving events. They’re perfect for practicing advanced techniques. However, since springboards allow for a higher elevation of jumps and dives, they need to be installed over deeper pools, making them less suitable for many home pools.
Platform diving board
A platform diving board is a fixed, rigid, usually concrete platform located at different heights above water. The elevation of the board usually ranges from 3 to 10 meters. Platforms are renowned for their use in prestigious diving competitions like the Olympics. Given the skill level required for platform diving and its potential risks for inexperienced divers, it may not be the safest option for beginners. Additionally, this type of diving is the safest to use in deeper pools and with lifeguard supervision.
Diving rock
A diving rock beside a swimming pool can create a more organic and rustic feel for the area. Diving rocks can be natural or artificial. These rock styles can match the surrounding landscape to complete a backyard theme. They are generally safer than many other diving board designs since they are closer to the water and have a solid surface. They may not be ideal for highly skilled or competitive divers, but they are excellent casual fun.
Inflatable diving board
A more recent addition to the diving board family is the inflatable platform. These heavy-duty boards are easily inflated and deflated at the pool owner’s convenience. They are great for events or those who enjoy the excitement of a diving board without permanence. Inflatable diving boards might not be as advanced as rigid ones, but they are safe and cost-effective for those seeking a less intimidating introduction to diving.
Dive in with confidence
Evaluate the household’s diving skill level, goals, and the home pool’s depth to more easily select the perfect diving board. Each board style offers distinct features catering to various preferences and abilities. Therefore, to make an easier choice, reach out to a pool specialist to find the right board that will bring joy for many years.
