Because of its numerous advantages over traditional plaster, Pebble Tec has easily become one of our favorite pool finishes. And, it’s consistently one of our customers’ favorite things about their pools too. So, what should you expect if you also decide to finish your new pool project with Pebble Technology? Here are the five general steps that happen after you select your perfect color.

Preparation

Step number one is pretty straightforward: prepping the walls of your pool to be finished. If you are refinishing your pool instead, then the original surface has to be stripped down in order for your pebble finish to adhere properly. After all of the prep is done, it’s on to the mixing.

Mixing

In this step, your unique finish selection is formulated. Pebble Tec’s blend of natural pebbles (or glass beads depending on your finish) is combined with water, cement, and color in order to complete the formula for application.

Application

After proper mixing, the finish is shot through a hose using a pneumatic sprayer to apply it to the pool. This method is used to produce a consistent result across the entire pool. Then, the applicator uses a trowel to compact the new surface and make sure the pebbles are properly secured before moving on to the next step.

Exposure

During this part of the process, the newly applied finish is sprayed with water and wiped down to get rid of any excess cement. Glass finishes, however, use a slightly different exposure method than pebble finishes, so this step may vary. But after this point, most of the hard work is done.

Hardening

All that’s left now is to let the finish set. The amount of time required will vary depending on the type of finish, but all finishes need some sort of hardening period. When the finish is cured, it will be pressure washed and rinsed with a special acid solution to remove any residue from your beautiful new finish.

We hope this was helpful in knowing what to expect during this part of the pool construction process. If you are considering building a new pool, reach out to us today for a free, in-home consultation. We would love to help you make the pool of your dreams become a reality.
