3 Functional Pool and Deck Layouts for Your Design Inspiration

For many people, one thing reigns supreme in their mind when they are designing a pool—the cost. However, there is one other factor that may be an even more important consideration, and that’s space. If you don’t have the budget to get everything you want in the first go, you can likely make improvements later, but it’s very unlikely that you will gain access to more space.

Of course, you need to make sure you end up with the size pool that you want, but you also have to keep other elements like decking in mind too. Four or five feet around your pool with allow you to walk the perimeter safely, but if you want a space big enough to sit or eat in, you’ll need to plan for a wider area. A table and chairs will take up approximately nine feet by nine feet and a row of lounge chairs will need 10 or 12 feet to still have room around them for walking.

So, how do you decide how to layout your space? Let’s look at three common pool and deck layouts to help get you started.

The L Deck

This layout gives you a relatively square space to plan out your seating or grilling area. You still have room to move around the pool, but everything else lives close together in a cozy, corner patio area.

The Wide Deck

This patio area is long and skinny, making it perfect for a row of chaise lounge chairs. For some people, this approach may make the most sense if they already have a wide but shallow back porch.

The Side Deck

Lastly, the side deck is the largest option of the three. While it requires a larger backyard to put this plan into action, it offers more than enough room for a fireplace, seating, and grilling/bar area.

If you were having trouble deciding on a layout for your pool construction project, these three should serve as solid starting points.
