This may seem like an odd question since winter in Arizona is far from what most people envision when speaking of the season. However, there are still good reasons to close your pool for a few months. Today, we’ll look at why you should consider winterizing, even in the Valley of the Sun.

While it is perfectly acceptable to leave your pool open year-round here in Arizona, many people don’t take advantage of their pool as often once the temperature drops. If that is your case, the pros of closing your pool may outweigh the cons. For example, maintaining the proper pH level becomes much more difficult in the winter. The cold weather means the pH changes quicker than usual and requires more maintenance.

If you fail to keep your pH at the right level, your pool could become more prone to stains or allow algae to grow, which could lead to bigger problems. Closing your pool for the winter will make it easier to hit the right levels. When you cover your pool, it prevents the sun’s ultraviolet rays from breaking down and evaporating your chlorine. This, along with not having people in your pool, will significantly decrease the amount of chlorine needed to keep everything in tip-top shape.

In addition to this benefit, closing your pool with a cover will keep debris out as well. You will want to be careful, however, and pets and children might mistake your cover for a solid surface and try walking on it. If you have either of these at your place, make sure your gate latch is functioning properly and keep an extra watchful eye.

Since you now know the benefits, do you think you are someone who could benefit from winterizing your pool this year? If so, you’ll want to take the right steps to prepare your pool. Be sure and let us know if you would like to hear more on the topic by contacting us here!
