The new and creative heights pool can go to are continually mind-blowing. Making our clients’ dreams come to life is one of our favorite parts of the job, so it’s always exciting to see what ideas people can come up with. Here are two imaginative designs we’ve recently come across to get your own creative juices flowing.

If you’re a reader (or if you’ve been to the movie theater in the last 20 years), you’ll likely recognize the inspiration for this pool. Owner Austin Shepherd from Eugene, OR partnered with designer and builder David B. Owens to create what he affectionately calls “The Hobbit Pool.” Shepherd wanted to transform his backyard to evoke all the J.R.R. Tolkien imagery that he loved as a child, including a shire-like reading room. As a father himself now, Shepherd plans to make good use of their fantastical creation with his 6-year-old daughter.

Getting all of the details right, like the one-of-a-kind fireplace model after Frodo’s Ring of Power, took a long time and a lot of dedication. Of the two-year project, Owens said, “sort of like the book, it was a long adventure.”

The Bus Pool

On the other side of the world, French artist Benedetto Bufalino put his own spin on the public pool—that is, by making it out of an old bus. Bufalino, who has done a number of projects involving water and repurposed vehicles, created this installation for “Operation Odyssey,” a local program that hosts various summer events in Gosnay, France.

The 30′ x 8′ pool is currently open to swimmers and holds up to 10 people. It will be traveling to a few other local towns as well—though not on its own wheels—before it finds a permanent home.

If you have an idea for a pool of your own, we would love to talk with you. While these extreme pools are fun to look at, your pool doesn’t have to be outrageous to be amazing. Let us know what’s on your mind by scheduling a free in-home estimate today.
