Minnesota High School to Hold Graduation at the Pool

It’s no longer news to say we’re all feeling a little displaced during this time in the world. Many of us have had to deal with changes to our work lives, vacation plans, and school schedules. But, thankfully, we’ve also had the privilege of seeing some good news rise above the rest—and not just the kind with John Krasinski. Today, the graduating class of Benson High School is celebrating some good news of their own.

Of all the things that have changed in the past few months, canceled graduation is one many of us can relate to. Knowing that the high school and college seniors in our lives won’t be able to walk across the stage to receive their hard-earned diplomas in the company of family and friends has been a real bummer, to put it lightly. One high school, however, has gone out of their way to make sure the tradition isn’t completely lost, and it includes a twist we pool people really enjoy.

When the Minnesota Department of Education “issued guidance saying indoor graduations and ceremonies held outside in stadiums . . . were not permitted,” Benson High School’s administration had to come up with another plan. They wanted to avoid an exclusively online event while still complying with the current state emergency order. So, the administration turned to an unlikely location (but a perfect one for making memories)—the swimming pool park.

That’s right! Tonight, the Benson High School Class of 2020 will still have a physical graduation at their local pool. It may be unconventional, but it’s easy to see why the community is celebrating. “We are excited to be able to provide a wonderful ceremony that celebrates and shows appreciation for the outstanding BHS 2020 Graduating class,” said Superintendent Dennis Laumeyer in a recent news release.

As a family in the pool business, we’re glad to see these high school seniors make yet another happy memory around the pool. We really believe in the pool as a place that brings people together! If your family or someone you know is interested in building a pool of their own, don’t hesitate to reach out to us here. We’d love to help you make the pool of your dreams into reality.
