Hayward Acquires "Smart Water" Device Maker pHin

Our friends at Hayward recently acquired ConnectedYard, a Silicon Valley start-up that invented pHin. What is pHin? It is an award-winning “Smart Water” device that monitors your water’s chemical levels 24/7 and notifies you via the pHin app when it’s time to make changes. And to make it even easier, you can purchase a subscription through pHin and receive pre-measured water-soluble pods delivered to your doorstep that keep you from ever having to measure chemicals again. All you have to do is follow the in-app instructions and toss in the color-coordinated pods.

Under Hayward, pHin’s opportunity for growth is greater than ever. Hayward CEO Clark Hale said of the device, “We see tremendous opportunity for both the stand-alone Smart Water monitor in addition to potential integration with other products as part of Hayward’s broader . . . strategy for total pool/spa automation.” This points not only to the promise that pHin has as a self-contained unit but also the possibility of tying into Hayward’s existing line of smartphone-controlled pumps and heaters.

Co-founders of Connected Yard, Justin Miller and Mark Janes, who will stay onto help manage the pHin brand as a part of Hayward are excited about the opportunity. “As pool owners, we understood there had to be a better way to manage water chemistry. Our idea rapidly gained momentum and traction as ConnectedYard emerged as a Silicon Valley startup. As part of the Hayward team, we plan to accelerate growth and adoption of pHin as we expand into new markets around the world,” said Miller and Janes.

Hayward’s Hale added, “Over the next few months, we will be talking to our dealers and channel partners to introduce the product, educate, and train on the new technology in preparation for the 2019 season.”
