With President Trump recently urging Americans to avoid groups larger than 10 people due to the coronavirus pandemic, most Arizonans have found themselves staying home this spring break. In addition, with so much misinformation being spread about COVID-19, it’s easy to feel unsure about what you need to worry about. So, should your backyard pool give you any concern?

As one of the last bastions of fun in this time of social distancing, it’s important that you feel safe using your swimming pool. Thankfully, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has already given us an answer to our questions. According to the CDC, “there is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.” That means, as long as you keep up with your pool’s regular maintenance, it should be completely safe for you and your family.

Of course, if you visit a public pool any contact you have with others there is just as risky as any other public setting. The CDC says that COVID-19 is spread primarily through respiratory droplets in coughs or sneezes that transfer between people within about 6 feet of one another. Taking this into account, staying home is probably the best option at this point.

We hope you all stay safe during this incident. If you don’t have a pool of your own, but you have extra time on your hands, use it to start planning the pool of your dreams. When you’re ready, reach out to us here to set up a free estimate and talk next steps. We look forward to hearing from you.
