As the saying goes, there’s a first time for everything. And for London, that thing may be the first 360-degree infinity pool. Created by the designers at Compass Pools, this pool is set to be built on top of a 55-story building, providing an unparalleled view of the city. If everything goes to plan, this concept, named Infinity London, could become a reality as early as the year 2020.
As you can imagine, a design this out-of-the-box comes with some challenges. First, the pool will be made from cast acrylic rather than glass, in order to make it look perfectly clear. Second, they had to answer the question of how people will enter and exit the pool. In order to maintain a flawless aesthetic, there will be no stairs outside of the building or inside the pool. Instead, Compass will utilize a rotating spiral staircase based on the door of a submarine that rises from the pool floor when someone enters or exits.
It seems they have thought of everything. The pool will be equipped with special lights that cause it to shine at night, and the floor of the pool will be completely clear as well, allowing the pool to be viewed from below. On the more technical side, the pool will have built-in meters that monitor wind speed, to manage the pool’s temperature and keep the water from spilling on the streets below. The exact location has not yet been determined, but the designers say it will have a five-star international hotel on the top floors of the building. This unique pool will be used by the guests staying there.
