Creating a Year-Round Oasis with Pool Heating Options

Heat pumps are a type of air conditioner.

Pools are one of the joys of summer for many homeowners. However, there's no reason not to enjoy the pool year-round.

Here is a look at some pool heating methods to create an oasis in both the summer and winter:

Solar pool heaters

Solar pool heaters are eco-friendly and exceptionally reliable in sunnier climates. Use solar panels to harness the sun's heat for the pool. While the panels themselves may be costly, the heating costs practically nothing. Using the panels for pool heating and generating electricity is even possible.

Gas pool heaters

While not as eco-friendly as solar heaters, gas heaters, powered by propane or natural gas, work equally well in any climate. They also heat the water extremely quickly. However, operating them costs more than solar heating. But if the home is already heated by gas, using it for the pool may not add too much to the overall gas bill.

Heat pumps

Heat pumps are a type of air conditioner. They take heat from the air or ground to warm the pool water. They cost less than gas heaters to operate, but buying a unit is generally more expensive than installing a gas heater. However, they're more energy-efficient than gas heaters and work well in moderate and warm climates but aren't ideal for particularly cold areas.

Electric resistance heaters

Electric resistance heaters use electric currents to heat the water regardless of the air temperature. These heaters work well for small pools, spas, and areas where other forms of heating aren't ideal. That said, they can work in any climate but are quite costly.

Pool covers

While using pool covers does not warm up a pool, it will preserve its temperature for a considerable time. Insulated pool covers reduce the cost of heating by preserving the temperature, especially overnight. Solar pool covers will also passively heat the pool during the day using the sun.

Automated control

Installing a smart control system helps save on power by turning the heater on or off, depending on the atmospheric temperature. Such a system also allows for remote control and monitoring of the pool temperature. This way, homeowners can turn it on while not home and enjoy the pool oasis hassle-free once back at the property.

Keep the pool oasis all year long

Heaters make it possible to keep the pool warm all year round. Consider the installation costs, long-term expenses, and the right heater for the climate to find the best possible option. Once a decision is made, contact a pool installer who can help with the technical side of pool heating.
